It's funny how I hit certain isles at my local LCBO (where they now notice me - and know all about what I'm doing!!) ... this week it was Italian ... and I found quite a gem this time!
SPINELLI QUARTANA CHARDONNAY TERRE DI CHIETI
LCBO 474239 | 750 mL bottle
Today we're doing our first Chardonnay. Let me say on the outset that this type of grape has not been a favorite of mine in the past. That being said, I really enjoyed this one (and I'm starting to develop an affinity towards Italian wines!). Most Chard's I've had in the past have had a strong oak flavor ... as in "heavily oaked". This Chardonnay was paler in color to most and had just a hint of oak with added flavors of pear and vanilla ... it was very crisp (unlike unlike most Chard's that I actually find boring) and it went perfectly with the Alaskan King Crab that we had. And at just $7.50 a bottle it is the best bang for the buck I've come across yet and will give it a solid 8/10 because of all the factors (along with price!!). Would I buy again? ABSOLUTELY!
Price: $ 7.50, Wine, White Wine, , 11.5% Alcohol/Vol.
Made in: Abruzzo, Italy, By: Spinelli Srl
Tasting Note - Light lemon colour; dry and light bodied with peach pear fruit and very crisp acidity
Serving Suggestion - Antipasto, shellfish, light seafood

10 Wines in 10 Days ...
After a couple days of enjoying my first reds (well, I enjoyed 1 of them!) I decided it was time to treat myself to another Sauvignon Blanc ... I was in the French isle today and decided to buy a couple Beaujolais bottles and try my first "French" Sauvignon Blanc ...
SKALLI FORTANT DE FRANCE SAUVIGNON BLANC VDP
LCBO 273235 | 750 mL bottle
OK ... back to my grape of choice ... though an ocean's away from my usual Sauvignon Blanc regions ... Chile and more notably Australia (and in particular New Zealand).
I noticed a total difference from my usual varieties ... although there was a floral/grassy fragrance when I first smelled it ... it was no where near the pronounced grassy smell I've become accustomed to. Although very pleasant in taste and quite full of flavor, again it was not the zesty and vibrant flavors I've associated with Sauvignon Blancs over the years.
Overall it is more "subdued" than the New World Sauvignon Blancs and I guess that's what you would expect from an "older" wine. After a couple of glasses I have really warmed up to this Old World Sauvignon and give it a solid 8/10 ... and yes, I think I will be trying it out again at some point in the future ... as I'm sipping it, it is really growing on me!
Price: $ 9.95 , Wine, White Wine, , 12.8% Alcohol/Vol., Sugar Content : 1
Made in: Languedoc, France, By: Skalli International Ltd.
Tasting Note - Pale straw colour; grassy, herbal aroma; good fruit flavour, lively grapefruit & lemon acidity, gently long finish
Serving Suggestion - Serve as an aperitif or with seafood and pasta
