Tonight we're staying in Ontario ... and as far as I'm concerned, Canadian wine will be making even more of an impact in the rest of the world in short order!
SAWMILL CREEK RIESLING
LCBO 241935 | 750 mL bottle
Price: $ 8.75 , Wine, White Wine, , 11.0% Alcohol/Vol., Sugar Content : 1
When one thinks of a Riesling, they immediately imagine the sweet Rieslings of Germany. Although my "wine of choice" is Sauvignon Blanc, I think one of my overall favorite's under $10 is "Hardys Stamp of Australia Riesling Gewurztraminer". The reason is that I like the Riesling flavor but not the sweetness of the traditional Riesling ... and the Hardys delivers. Well, so does this Canadian product!
This Riesling has plesant aromas (I could NOT detect the petrol notes mentioned below - THAT would have turned me off of this wine!) and a very clean crisp flavor hinting of ripe peaches and honey. It was very smooth with just a hint of sweetness. The flavor that explodes in your mouth stays with you as you swallow this gem. The reason I chose this tonight was that I have a cheese with Jalapenos in it and the tasting notes below mentioned spicy dishes ... and the tasting note did not dissappoint! This "semi-sweet" (heavy on the semi - really just a hint of sweetness) wine paired perfectly with the spicy hot cheese on the menu tonight! A solid 8.5/10 and it's on my short list of Rieslings! And, did you notice the price? Under $9.00!!!!!
Made in: Ontario, Canada, By: Vincor International Inc.
Tasting Note - Deep yellow colour; apricot, mineral and mild petrol notes on the nose; medium-bodied with a hint of sweetness
Serving Suggestion - Asian food; curry; spicy dishes
