It's funny how I hit certain isles at my local LCBO (where they now notice me - and know all about what I'm doing!!) ... this week it was Italian ... and I found quite a gem this time!
SPINELLI QUARTANA CHARDONNAY TERRE DI CHIETI
LCBO 474239 | 750 mL bottle
Today we're doing our first Chardonnay. Let me say on the outset that this type of grape has not been a favorite of mine in the past. That being said, I really enjoyed this one (and I'm starting to develop an affinity towards Italian wines!). Most Chard's I've had in the past have had a strong oak flavor ... as in "heavily oaked". This Chardonnay was paler in color to most and had just a hint of oak with added flavors of pear and vanilla ... it was very crisp (unlike unlike most Chard's that I actually find boring) and it went perfectly with the Alaskan King Crab that we had. And at just $7.50 a bottle it is the best bang for the buck I've come across yet and will give it a solid 8/10 because of all the factors (along with price!!). Would I buy again? ABSOLUTELY!
Price: $ 7.50, Wine, White Wine, , 11.5% Alcohol/Vol.
Made in: Abruzzo, Italy, By: Spinelli Srl
Tasting Note - Light lemon colour; dry and light bodied with peach pear fruit and very crisp acidity
Serving Suggestion - Antipasto, shellfish, light seafood
